Southern California is a very nice place to spend a gap year. It's a country with a rich and diverse geography. There are alpine mountains, foggy coastlines and hot deserts. There are the world's tallests, most massive and oldest trees.
The state is divided into Northen and Southern California, but the boundary between them is not well defined, but San Francisco is on the Northen California and Los Angeles in Southern California.
There are many beaches for surfing, bathing, and do more activities. The background along all the coast its so impressive and happens the same with the mountain.
California's climate varies widely, from Mediterranean to subartic, depending on latitude elevation and proximity to the coast. Coastatal and Southern parts of the state have a Mediterranean climate, it means there are rainy winters and dry summers. The influence of the ocean generally moderates temperature extremes, crating warmer winters and cooler summers, especially along the coastal areas.
